Peter and Picasso's Friends

With the bronze Picasso on the Plaza de la Merced in Malaga, right in front of Picasso's birthplace.

Since I was 25, I've been interested in Picasso and bought my first small art book about him. Since then, I've acquired about 500 art books about the great master, but I've also had the fortunate opportunity to meet artists, photographers, etc. who knew Picasso or were good friends with him.

Below are some of those special people I have had the privilege to meet (most of them have unfortunately passed away).

These include the renowned American photographer David Douglas Duncan and the French photographer Lucien Clergue, both of whom I was friends with.

Furthermore, I have had the pleasure of meeting Picasso's son, Claude Picasso, who sadly passed away too soon. During his lifetime, he was in charge of the Picasso Administration. During my work as a lawyer, I have met many thousands of people, but he remains one of the most impressive personalities I have come to know.

There was also the extraordinarily amiable French photographer André Villers and the famous Turkish photographer Ara Güler.

Alain Ramié
is the son of George and Suzanne Ramié and was the owner of Galery Madoura, where Picasso created all his ceramic work.

Many years ago, I met the particularly kind Swiss photographer René Burri, especially known for his world-famous portrait of Che Guevara.

Antony Penrose is the son of Lee Miller, the famous photographer and muse of artists, and of Sir Roland Penrose, art historian and great collector and friend of Picasso. Antony is a very artistic and amiable person and runs Farleys Farmhouse and Gallery, partly to keep the memory of both his parents alive.

I had the great pleasure of meeting Sylvette David/Lydia Corbett. Sylvette is a wonderful person and she was the important muse of Picasso in 1954 and painted/depicted by him more than 70 times.

Finally, I mention Angela Rosengart, the daughter of the great collector Siegfried Rosengart, who had the honor of being painted and drawn by Picasso at least five times. She is the owner of the Rosengart Collection in Zurich, which contains more than 300 artworks by Pablo Picasso, Paul Klee, and 23 other impressionist and classic modern artists.

Meeting these special people and many others has enriched my life.

With Claude Picasso at the wheel in David Douglas Duncan's Mercedes 300 SL. I'm sitting in the place where Picasso always sat. Claude Picasso was kind enough to drive me through the Swiss mountains near Gstaad.

With Alain Ramie in the Madoura workshop in Vallauris. We are standing where Picasso always worked under the statue of St. Claude, the patron saint of ceramicists. Picasso named his son Claude after this patron saint.

With David Douglas Duncan in his very special home in Castellaras Le Vieux, near Mougins in southern France.

Here with David Douglas Duncan in his living room. By chance, David and I had both been operated on our right hips, and I had bought a classic walking stick from the flea-market in Nice for both of us.

With Lucien Clergue and my family in Lucien's hometown, Arles.

With René Burri at the Kunsthal in Rotterdam, on the occasion of an exhibition about his life and work.

With André Villers in his house in Le Luc En Provence in France.

With Ara Güler and my friends at Ara Cafe in Istanbul. Ara is signing a photo from his collection that I own. Ara Güler had been allowed to take some photos of Picasso during his stay at Picasso's house in Le Notre Dame de Vie in Mougins.
